The purpose of any investigation in essence is a fact-finding exercise: an opportunity to explore allegations; examine and obtain evidence; and determine whether misconduct has been committed, by whom, and to what extent. In disputes, this independent examination becomes paramount and allows parties to negotiate (and settle) based on facts rather than emotions.
Organized by K2 Integrity, this session part of Riyadh International Disputes Week, aims to provide attendees insights into the roles investigators and investigations play for successful dispute resolution, the challenges and issues that normally arise, and how to deal with them. Join our panel of experts for a one-hour session as they discuss the potential pitfalls of investigations and how to navigate these challenges. You’ll hear from Darren Matthews, executive managing director and regional head of EMEA at K2 Integrity; Chris Brennan, partner and head of compliance and investigations MENA at Dentons; and Mohammed Majid, general counsel at Dubizzle Group. The discussion will be moderated by Ghazanfar Shah, senior managing director at K2 Integrity. Discussion topics will include:
- Role of investigators and investigations during disputes
- Initial crisis management: how to manage panic amongst stakeholders
- Confusion over the investigation objective: how to clarify
- Compromise of independence: who is driving the bus?
- Differing levels of knowledge: playing “catch up”
The session will end with a drinks and reception allowing participants an informal platform for a Q&A opportunity with the panellists, as well as an opportunity for all practitioners to network with like-minded professionals.
