Juan C. Zarate presided over the Council on Foreign Relations event, “Looking Ahead: Blockchain and Its Impacts on Democracy, Finance, and National Security.” Part of the Diamonstein-Spielvogel Meetings on Democracy, the 21 November 2024 panel focused on the potential technical and economic benefits provided by blockchain technology, including Web3 and cryptocurrencies, their effect on democratic institutions, financial inclusion, and national security, as well as the role of regulation in promoting transparency, mitigating risks, and encouraging innovation.
