Mark Fishstein is a director and a member of K2 Integrity’s Investigations and Disputes practice. Using skills honed over more than two decades of investigative work, Mark provides a range of investigative, risk, and related consultative services throughout K2 Integrity’s practice areas, with extensive experience in cases involving art, antiquities, and collectibles. Through internal and external investigations, asset searches, due diligence, and construction quality/labor compliance monitoring, Mark obtains critical intelligence that helps clients manage legal, regulatory, and financial risk.
Prior to joining K2 Integrity, Mark served as a Detective on the Major Case Squad for the New York City Police Department (NYPD) for 22 years. He was the sole investigator and detective responsible for art-related crimes. In this position Mark investigated high-profile, citywide art crime cases; recovered millions of dollars of stolen art; and made more than 400 felony arrests related to those complex investigations. He has also worked in conjunction with the FBI, Interpol, and other worldwide law enforcement agencies to recover art. He has been involved in investigations related to a number of high-profile kidnappings, bank robberies, and high-end burglary cases (in which losses exceeded $1 million); has provided dignitary protection for world leaders; and has led hundreds of criminal investigations and processed numerous crime scenes. During his tenure with the NYPD, Mark testified in more than 500 grand juries and criminal trials.
Mark started his career in 1993 in the 17th precinct of the NYPD, where he worked as a patrol officer, as a plain clothes anti-crime officer, and as a detective. He was a first responder to the 9/11 World Trade Center disaster recovery.
Mark has completed the following certified courses for the NYPD: Dignitary Protection, a certification that is accredited by the U.S. Secret Service; Crime Scene and Evidence Collection; and Homicide Investigations.
