John George, CFE, is an associate managing director in the Financial Crimes Compliance practice at K2 Integrity, based in New York, with more than 20 years’ experience in financial crime investigations involving cyber intrusions and threats, bank fraud, financial institution fraud, and money laundering. He works with large multinational financial institutions, helping them to adhere to regulatory consent orders that mandate transaction monitoring lookbacks and correspondent banking activity analysis, and resolve the issues prompting regulatory action. Leading teams that conduct transactional historical reviews and investigations, John helps clients’ sanctions compliance units to assess customer transactions, investigating suspicious patterns and documenting the analysis leading to transaction escalation or mitigation. Working with clients to ensure financial crimes compliance, he conducts quality assurance and submits suspicious activity reports (SARs) to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).
Prior to joining K2 Integrity, John worked in the Cyber/Special Operations Division for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a forensic analyst, where he investigated complex criminal matters, both locally and internationally. As part of his casework, John examined thousands of bank account transactions in order to identify money laundering, asset misappropriation, and other financial crimes, obtaining crucial intelligence leads through ongoing review of CTRs, SARs, and other FinCEN reports. Using his extensive knowledge of public records databases and open source research, John conducted thorough forensic financial analysis of business and personal records, developing financial profiles of individuals or groups identified as participating in suspicious or illegal activity.
In his work with the FBI, John also gathered evidence and prepared search warrants and affidavits associated with financial analysis; accompanied case agents on interviews of subjects and key witnesses; identified and traced funding sources and interrelated transactions; compiled finding and conclusions into financial investigative reports; and met with prosecuting attorneys to discuss strategies and other litigation support functions to testify when needed as a fact or expert witness in judicial proceedings.
John has a B.A. in business administration, with a concentration in finance, from the College of Staten Island, CUNY. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
