Maximilian Bargiel is an associate managing director in K2 Integrity’s Financial Crimes Compliance practice. With more than a decade of experience in the financial services industry, he advises a broad range of clients—including banks, financial institutions, and fintech companies—on anti-money laundering (AML), know your customer (KYC), and financial crimes compliance (FCC). Max develops and implements comprehensive compliance strategies that help organizations manage risk, achieve regulatory compliance, and enhance their overall operational resilience. He also leads complex regulatory remediation projects, overseeing corrective actions to address AML/KYC findings for large financial institutions, enhancing transaction monitoring and investigation programs, and developing robust AML/KYC policies and procedures.
Before joining K2 Integrity, Max was a senior managing strategy consultant at Promontory Financial Group, where he successfully led multifaceted FCC projects, including regulatory remediation and program enhancements for international financial institutions. While at Promontory, he supported the development of a comprehensive multi-year BSA/AML remediation plan for a large international financial institution to broadly address deficiencies identified by regulators, third parties, and internal audit. He also managed the review and uplift of a complex transaction monitoring program for a large international financial institution and developed AML and KYC policies and procedures for several fintech companies and financial institutions.
Prior to his time at Promontory, Max served as vice president of the Americas AML Program Office at MUFG Bank, where he supported the development and implementation of U.S. KYC policies and procedures, as well as enhancements to customer risk rating methodologies and models. At Scotiabank, Max oversaw the implementation of a global issue management process and coordinated the response effort for BSA/AML regulatory examinations. Max began his career at HSBC, where he supported governance and reporting for the FCC program, conducted AML investigations, and performed risk assessments for high-risk correspondent banking clients.
Max holds dual B.A. degrees in economics and international relations from Boston University. He is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and is fluent in Polish.
