Maher Shaheed is an associate managing director with K2 Integrity’s Financial Crimes Compliance practice. With more than 15 years’ experience serving the financial services industry, she works with large multinational financial institutions, helping them to adhere to regulatory consent orders that mandate transaction monitoring lookbacks and resolve the issues prompting regulatory action.
Maher leads transaction monitoring lookbacks for correspondent/retail banking for large multinational financial institutions, and is responsible for implementing investigation protocols, resource recruiting and training, quality assurance reviews, and project management. She also assists clients in the design and delivery of risk assessments and the resolution of issues related to regulatory actions and helps to assess and revise the institutions’ policies and procedures and provide training.
Prior to joining K2 Integrity, Maher was a team manager and centralized case reviewer and quality assurance reviewer at JPMorgan Chase, where she was responsible for reviewing and approving cases, suspicious activity reports (SARs), and line-of-business escalations for investigation teams across all global financial crimes and compliance sites and lines of business. She also performed in-depth quality assurance (QA) reviews on SARs prior to their submission to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), and was responsible for identifying regulatory OFAC compliance issues and implementing solutions to improve operations. Prior to transitioning to AML, Maher worked on the retail side of finance as a branch manager with Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., where she was responsible for ensuring that her branch was compliant with BSA/AML and OFAC policies and procedures.
Maher received a B.S. (Hons.) in labor studies from York University in Toronto, Canada.
